What made you want to start singing/writing?

I used to go to my uncles house who lived across the street from me when I was 7 or 8. He had an old Harmony Guitar he bought at Stan’s Music (The local music store). I wanted to empress him more than I wanted to play, that was, until I started learning a few chords. He would pick me up straight off the school bus and he started taking me to have lesson from a man by the name of Vernon Brown. After I learned to play a few songs I found I really enjoyed picking guitar. I wrote a song for fun one day when I was 14 and posted it on YouTube and I received good feedback for it to be a “just for fun” song. As time passed by, I realized this is my purpose in life, to play music.

Do you play any instruments? Did you teach yourself?

I play guitar - I took lessons from Vernon Brown for a year or so.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

Musically - (too many to name!) a few include: Stoney Larue, Chris Stapleton, Allman Brothers, Hank Sr., and Chris Knight. Business wise- Corey Smith is probably my biggest idol when it comes to being a DIY artist.

Where do you get inspiration to write?
A lot of people have told me “you need to write everyday.” The majority of my lyrics are written during a hard time I am going through or something on my mind at that time. I have written a few “forced lyric” tunes but that takes the realism out of the song.

Do you have a favorite song that you’ve written or co-written?
I have a couple of original songs that are really special to me. One being “When We Were Kids” and the other being “Southern Rain.” “When We Were Kids” was written about the realization of “growing up” that ever person goes through. My buddy Jimmy Jones went into the U.S. Marines and Tyler McKellar started a family, leading to one of the lines of the song. That kind of stuff works on you when you've grown up with someone, it’s like a death in the family, you never see each other anymore. “Southern Rain” was written about a tough break-up I went through during high school. Only she would know this song was wrote about us. Each of these songs were wrote as a way of coping/healing for me.

What moment in your career is your favorite thus far?
I have a lot to be thankful for and numerous good memories. I’ve been the opener for a lot of national acts but the most favorite part of my career was recording my first professional album at Lee Davis Studio in Maysville, Ga (Corey Smith’s Key player and producer).

Finish this sentence, If I could write a song for or with anyone I would choose....?
I would love to have an Eric Church cut one day. I love his style, his music is so unpredictable.

If I could sing a song with anyone I would choose....?
Jamey Johnson

Where do you see yourself in a year?
In a year I hope to have had a cut on some major artists album. I would love to sign sort of publishing deal too before the end of the year!

5 years?
I can’t predict the future. I’m pushing as hard as I can push being an unsigned artist. I hope to have had some success within five years as a writer or an artist, which ever comes first.

If I wasn’t a singer/songwriter I would be...?
In high school I had plans of becoming a welder.

I’m afraid of...?
Waking up one day and realizing I could have done better yesterday.

I never get tired of...?
I never get tired of playing/writing music. If my words can continue to touch the lives of others, that will never get tiring.

What is one thing people may not know about you?
Before performing full-time I used to work for Waste Away Services, LLC. I picked up trash on the back of a trash truck and I delivered porta johns (my hat is off to the working man.). If the bills ever get to where they can not get paid playing music I will never be ashamed to work.

We are a month into the new year, what does 2015 look like you for? New music? Festivals? Etc.
2015 is off to a really strong start, with the release of my brand new single “Love and Sin” and debut music video, (shoutout to Story Reel Productions, David Holloway, Rachael Hughes and my beautiful hardworking manager Maggie Jameson ) things are looking great. We have a good many shows on the calendar and I have also got a few more surprises under the table for this year. I have one meeting coming up that I am really excited about, I can not call any names just yet but this guy is a veteran in the business and I’ve got a gut feeling he is going to be a big help in a lot of ways. We are doing great considering we do not have a deal!
