Kacey Musgraves // [2.14.2015]
Rams Head Live //
Baltimore, MD
My concert
partner and I have spent countless hours in a car road tripping from one show
to the next. When an amazing artist like Kacey Musgraves puts on a show in our
city, we’d be insane not to be there.
John
& Jacob //
In the past, I
have hated myself for not familiarizing myself with the opening act before the
show. I mean, I at least try to Google them to get I feel for the style. With a
crazy week at work and show after show the three nights before, I did not have
the time. Honestly, I am glad I didn’t.
Right
before John & Jacob hit the stage, I did not know what to expect. As soon
as they stepped on stage I could tell we would be in for a surprise and it was
evident that just based on their style [matching burgundy suits] that they were
the perfect fit for Kacey Musgraves.
This band of
five young men blew me away with their refreshing sound. So much so that I made
sure to buy their album before I left the venue. In case you were wondering,
the talent of these men does not start and end on stage; they wrote or co-wrote
every song on their album.
Kacey
Musgraves //
When Kacey
finally stepped on stage, the sold out venue went insane. She interacted with
her audience in a way that I had never experience. She didn’t walk through the
crowd, she didn’t lean down to give high fives, and she didn’t stop to take
selfies. What she did felt far more personal and intimate. Kacey stopped
several times throughout the show to just talk to us. All of her songs tell a
story, but she wanted to give her fans a prefix to those stories.
She also didn’t
pass up the moment to point out the uniqueness of the venue, referring to it as
some sort of old pirate ship.
Kacey played
favorites from her album, including: Step Off, Blowing Smoke, and Back on the
Map.
Off course, she
played Merry Go Round and The Trailer Song.
Before she left
the stage, she played My House, which is one of my favorites from her album.
When she came
back for her encore, she left her band backstage. Kacey played a couple new
songs that will be released on her next album. After she played solo, she
invited her band back out on stage to close on with Follow Your Arrow. Before
the band left the stage, they closed out with an acoustic cover of Happy
Trails.
What
I Wore //
First off, I
wish I were wearing that dress that Kacey was rocking on stage. I need to find
that dress.
Black denim is
one of my favorite things. My BGB jeans from Urban kept my legs warm as we were
walking from bar to bar before the show. I wore my Tribe Kelley Nomad tee on
top covered with a tan leather fringe vest.
