CONCERT REVIEW: Brad Paisley [Camden, NJ]

Brad Paisley // [5.15.2015]
SBC // Camden, NJ

Mickey Guyton //

Not knowing much about the opener, I did not know what to expect.

From the moment Mickey Guyton stepped out on stage, I was instantly impressed with her passion and what seemed like sincerity [you can tell she has a kind soul as soon as you see her]. During her set, she pulled a little girl up on stage with her and the two of them walked around singing and waving to the fans.

Mickey Guyton ended her set with Better Than You Left Me before she thanked us and told us to get ready for Justin and Brad!

Justin Moore //

Justin celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday, May 14th and saved the party for us on Friday night! Moore has been opening up shows for years and I cannot wait to see this adorable yet badass man headline his own tour. He started off the night with Point At You [one of my favorites] and closed his set out with Small Town USA.

About halfway through his set, Moore played If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away. Right after the band strummed the first few chords to this song, Moore asked the crowd to take out their phones or lighters in order to make the venue shine. [Every time I see Justin, I try to take a panorama picture of this experience—it never does the beauty justice].

By far, the most emotional part of Moore’s set was when he called one of his little girls over to join him on stage. He thanked the crowd for supporting him and his music, but more importantly, for supporting his three little girls and helping him provide them with the tools they need a successful future.

Brad Paisley //

We always remember our first [country concert] and for me that was Brad.

Not only was this set list packed with fan favorites, but the transitions from song to song were flawless.

Brad opened the show with River Bank and transitioned right into Water. Later in the show Beat This Summer transitioned into Perfect Storm as fans saw the video on the big screen go from a sweet summer sky to a stormy mix of clouds and rain. The choice to play Mud on the Tires right after Southern Comfort Zone created another flawless shift.

If you are an opener for Brad Paisley, your job doesn’t end the first time you walk off the stage. Brad brings his supporting acts back on stage to help him with certain songs. Brad invited Justin Moore back to jam out to I’m Still A Guy. Later, Brad had Mickey Guyton join him for the beautiful duet, Whiskey Lullaby. Mickey’s soulful and smooth voice was a perfect choice to cover Alison Krauss. [Side note: thank goodness Whiskey Lullaby is back on the set list—it has been too long].

Towards the end of the show, Brad stepped off the main stage, walked through the crowd, and jumped on a smaller stage in front of the lawn. When he was up by the lawn, Paisley played She’s Everything. When he came back to the main stage, he played a few more songs before leaving the stage for a few moments.

As he has been doing for the past decade, Brad closed the show the same way that many of his fans started it —with Alcohol.
