CONCERT REVIEW: Eric Paslay

Eric Paslay // [2.12.2015]
Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill // Woodbridge, VA

If you don’t own Eric Paslay’s self-titled album, you should. Each song on the album is passionate and deep --- your ears deserve to listen. The only thing better than listening to his album, is listening to him live. Eric Paslay rocked the stage for a little over an hour, but before that was a bit chaotic.

Because of issues with the venue or with the opener’s equipment, there was an hour delay to the start of the show. The opening act originally came on stage at 8:00 as scheduled, but after one song, they left the stage. When the issue was resolved, the opening act, The Jerry Wade Band, came out and played what I believe was the whole set. Although JWB was a decent local band that had two catchy original songs and several covers, their set should have been cut short in order to put the schedule back on track.

My anger and annoyance from waiting for the opening band to play was quickly alleviated as soon as Eric made his appearance on stage. I have such a strong, emotional connection to his music and for some reason, I felt like he could tell.
From the moment Eric walked on stage to the moment he left, he owned the room. He thrilled the audience with his quirky attempts at sexy dancing and he made purposeful connections with his fans.

Paslay played several of songs from his self-titled album, including his hits Friday Night, Song About A Girl, and most recent, She Don’t Love You. Paslay also performed two of his original songs that were released by some of his contemporaries such as Love & Theft’s, Angel Eyes and Eli Young Band’s, Even If It Breaks Your Heart.

As stated earlier, Paslay’s album is packed with passion. Two of these emotional songs on his album are Less than Whole and Good with Wine. If you know these songs, just imagine them live. The passion flows from the stage right out to the crowd.
Best moment //

We all have that one song we need to hear when we see a live show. For me, that song was Good with Wine. I have seen Paslay a few times, but I had never heard him perform that song. As soon as the first chord was played, my knees gave out and I was short of breath. The affect the song had on me, both physically and emotionally, did not go unnoticed by Paslay. It is the connections like this one that make shows so special for me.

Please, go see this man perform live as often as you can.

What I Wore //

Because this venue was in a bar and we were planning on getting there for dinner, I knew I wasn’t going to have to wait in a freezing cold line. I wore a short, black, sleeveless, cotton dress with my red plaid duster vest over the dress. My arrowhead necklace from Knot & Bow really popped on the black dress.
