CONCERT REVIEW: The Big Revival Tour // 5.27.2015

The Big Revival Tour
Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen & Chase Rice
Merriweather Post Pavilion // Columbia, MD

Chase Rice //
This is one of the few times we have seen Chase open for another act. Chase has been on fire recently headlining his own shows for smaller venues—venues that he sells out. Because we were used to a longer set from him, hearing him play only a six song set was a bit strange. Nonetheless, this man knows how to do his job. He had the sandbar [pit] dancing and singing along and he had the fans in the pavilion up on their feet. Chase opened his set with Do It Like This and then went into How She Rolls. After, Chase played two of his steamy, intimate, sexy songs: Gonna Wanna Tonight and Ride.

Jake Owen //
Jake is the perfect tour mate for Kenny Chesney. I cannot think of anyone else who would be a better fit for Kenny’s beachy, laidback persona. Speaking of being beachy, Jake opened his set with one of the biggest songs from last summer, Beachin’ and transitioned into Anywhere with You [one of my all time favorites].

Jake performed his latest single, Real Life, for the first time at this show. His set also included Tall Glass of Something, Days of Gold, and Don’t Think I Can’t Love You. Jake closed out his set with The One That Got Away and Barefoot Blue Jean Night.

When Jake was onstage, his energy was radiating. He makes his fans feel special and part of the show by singling out individuals in the audience either by pointing and smiling or stopping to take a selfie.

Kenny Chesney //
The second Kenny steps on stage you can tell why he has won entertainer of the year time after time. After taking a year off from touring to focus on a new album, Kenny makes a triumphant return to the stage with his own personal Big Revival. You can tell by his reactions to the fans that he missed his fans and they definitely reciprocate the feeling.
Because his repertoire is so large, the only songs from the new album that made an appearance on his setlist were Wild Child, Til It’s Gone, and American Kids. It’s also worth noting that Kenny pulled Who You’d Be Today out of his catalog to honor the very recent death of one of his touring family. Kenny concluded the show in his classic fashion with She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy while being joined onstage by his tour mates, Chase and Jake.

Kenny checked in after the show with the local radio station, WMZQ, to share his reactions.
