Joe Nichols // [2.26.2015]
The
Fillmore // Silver Spring, MD
Any show that
gives me the opportunity to not only hear some of my favorite songs, but also
introduce me to some new jams is always a win. This show did just that!
Scott
Kurt //
The first opener
had some sweet original songs that had me dancing right up front. He had the
audience entertained with his music, dancing, and a couple of high kicks here
and there. Scott Kurt was not afraid to interact with the crowd by giving shout
outs to certain fans he recognized or to members of the crowd that were
obviously digging his music. He also threw a handful of his albums to the crowd
[this reviewer caught one].
Sam
Grow //
Damn, this
hometown Marylander brought the house down! Since he came back to his roots for
this show, he had a major fan following just to the right of this reviewer.
Putting together an electric set of original songs, he had everyone in the
venue a fan by the end of his set.
When Sam Grow
started his set, the energy poured from the stage right to the crowd. He played
a variety of soulful tunes that let the audience get to know him as an artist,
along with a couple of sexy tunes that could make any woman melt.
Onstage, he
seemed like a true and honest person. When I had the chance to meet him after
the show, he confirmed my original impressions. [Keep an eye out for an
interview coming soon]
Joe
Nichols //
First off, if
you haven’t listened to Joe Nichols’ newest album, Crickets, which is about a year old now, you should put that on
your list! He played an incredible collection of songs from his newest album as
well as his older hits that left me feeling all kinds of nostalgia, including Broken Heartsville, What’s a Guy Gotta Do, She
Only Smokes When She Drinks [my fav], and Size Matters.
When Nichols
came back for his encore, he was sporting a cap of the local baseball team, The
Washington Nationals [that isn’t my team, but still, the crowd loved it]!
Nichols started
he encore by playing one of his greatest jams, Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off! Because we were all waiting in
25-degree weather to get into this venue, his final song most certainly left
everyone begging for warmer weather! The band rocked black wayfarers as they
owned the stage for their Sunny and 75
finale.
What
I Wore //
Black denim with
my License to Boot [LTB] deer silhouette muscle tank on top. I layered my tank
with a long, sleeveless, red flannel duster. I also added on several necklaces
from Urban Outfitters and Knot & Bow Designs.
