What made you want to start singing/writing?
When I was in high school, I played guitar in another band.  When members of that band decided to go their separate ways, I wanted to continue playing music so I started my own band and learned to sing.  I knew that I needed my own original songs, so I started writing shortly after that.  Writing is also a great way for people to be able to get to know me.

Do you play any instruments? Did you teach yourself?
I play guitar.  I started playing keyboard when I was six, then I started playing guitar when I was nine.  When I first started taking lessons, I learned how to play lead guitar.  I still play some lead, but I mostly play rhythm now that I am the singer.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
When I was growing up, my dad always listened to southern rock.  My friends listened to country.  I believe that elements of both of these styles of music can be found in the songs that I write.

Where do you get inspiration to write?
I grew up on our family farm that’s been in my family for seven generations.  There is also a lake nearby that I spend as much time on during the summer as possible.  I get inspiration to write from experiences that happen to me on the farm or the lake.  I also listen to stories my friends tell me and have incorporated some of those stories into a few of my songs.

Do you have a favorite song that you’ve written or co-written?
This is tough because I have several favorites and I don’t think I could pick just one.  On my EP, I wrote “Heart’s Highway” and “Wishin’ It Was Friday” by myself and I co-wrote “Secondhand Smoke” and “Try It On.”

What moment in your career is your favorite thus far?
My favorite moment was definitely when my EP debuted at number 27 on the iTunes Country Charts.  I was not expecting to make it onto the charts.  When I saw the support from everyone, I was blown away.  I can’t thank everyone enough for that moment.  Another exciting moment for me was when I moved to Nashville a year and a half ago.  It has been a great experience to be surrounded by so many talented people.

Finish this sentence, If I could write a song for or with anyone I would choose….?
Eric Church.  I am a huge fan of his music and him as an artist.

If I could sing a song with anyone I would choose….?
Blake Shelton.  After seeing some interviews, I feel like he is a very down to earth guy and that we would get along well.

Where do you see yourself in a year?  5 years?
Honestly, my answer for these two questions is the same.  As long as I am able to travel around, play music for a living, and be able to touch people’s lives through my songs, then I will be happy.

If I wasn’t a singer/songwriter I would be…?
A doctor.

I’m afraid of…?
There isn’t much that I’m afraid of.  I’m always up for a challenge.  My dad taught me to work hard for what I want and to never give up on something I love.

I never get tired of…?
Playing live shows.  I love seeing and feeling the energy transfer from our band to the crowd and back again.  It’s a feeling that I can’t get anywhere else.

What is one thing people may not know about you?
I was valedictorian of my senior class and I kept a 4.0 average in college while working on a Biology major.

We are a month into the new year, what does 2015 look like you for? New music? Festivals? Etc.
I’m always writing new songs and once I get some more that I am very proud of, then I will be releasing some new music.  We are currently booking shows for spring and summer so we will be announcing shows on our website as we book them.  We are playing an Army ball in Denver in May and I am really looking forward to it.
